Resin Pendants

I *love* the way my first foray into creating resin pendants turned out. It’s finicky, messy, stinky material to work with (not to mention the toxic fumes it emits when you’re in the mixing stages), but it was definitely worth all the trouble to get these pendants just right.

I started by pouring a crystal clear layer, then embedding the tiny photo reproduction of one of my original paintings into the resin. After letting it set, I added a bone-colored layer for the backing. To finish them off, I sanded and polished them by hand, then adhered a sterling silver bail to the back so they’ll hang nicely on any chain.

The winter girl pendant is available in the shop now.

I have a few more with 3 other paintings to list in the shop next. All the “Bee Girl” ones are sold out already. Sorry!

If you have any requests for specific paintings, I’d love your feedback for the next batch. I had such a blast making these that I’m sure there will be lots more to come!  Keep checking the shop to see the new girls!

Bee Girl postcards

Bee Girl postcards are now in the shop! They’ve got a nice heavy weight, high gloss and rounded corners that I think give them an extra special touch. Their blank white backs with a simple Cagey Bee logo make them perfect for sending a thank you note, tucking into a gift or decorating your fridge or bulletin board.

Postcard packs come with 10 notecards sized 4 X 6 inches and 10 brown bag envelopes made of 100% recycled material that are lovely to the touch.

I have two more designs to release, plus a 4 pack with one of each design. Yay!

Craft Show Success

My first craft show

I’m thrilled to report that my first craft show was a huge success (though this photo clearly wasn’t). My helper monkey Jen was there for moral support and ended up being a great salesgirl too. It was much easier for her to say things like, “This one’s my favorite! And no, I’m not the artist”. heh

I met some really wonderful people (fellow booth buddies Tanis Alexis, Stitchella & of course, Melanie, the organizer) got tips on what craft shows I should apply for next, got ideas and a couple of leads on local stores that are interested in displaying my work – all in all, awesome. Oh and the sales weren’t bad either!

From a strictly business standpoint it was an excellent learning experience to see which of my paintings drew people in and what sold best. But from a strictly human standpoint, it felt amazing to see people’s faces light up when they saw my work. I can’t begin to express how much joy I felt every time someone walked around the corner, glanced at my booth and broke out in a huge grin.

Since I mostly sell my work online, this was a new experience for me. Sure I’ve had wonderful feedback from friends and family members who’ve seen my work, but they have to be nice. Or at least polite. Craft show patrons walking by my table without even glancing up to notice that the artist IS within earshot? I braced myself for some harsh criticism and breathed a sigh of relief when none came. And then I did a little happy dance.  :)

The new products I put together for the show went over really well and I’ll be listing what’s left in the shop this week. I’ve already added a postcard pack of 10 “Umbrella Girl” notecards to the card section. Check ‘em out:

Bee Boy

Do I have the sweetest bee boy or what? I was so sick after (& during) Halloween that I completely forgot to upload my pics. I’m lucky to have a pug sweet enough to indulge his momma’s desire to see him dressed in costumes. I don’t do this regularly, but for one night a year I figured he could handle the embarrassment.

He was pretty well-behaved as we went trick or treating around the neighborhood causing many giggles and squeals. The only problem was he got a little too comfy and started wandering into people’s houses, like we were there to visit friends. Whoops! Good thing we had a mini Batman (secret identity: my nephew Kieran) to help us:

Last and also least, seeing as he’s just wee little thing, is my sister’s pooch Meeka. And no, we did not keep that Frankenstein hat on for more than 3 minutes.

More pics of the rest of the gang in my Flickr album.
