Handmade Nation

Two things: Handmade Nation is coming to Vancouver (yay!) & I won tickets (double yay!).

Handmade Nation is the brainchild of Faythe Levine, otherwise known as the ‘Ambassador of Handmade’. Levine has traveled 19,000 miles to document the movement of artists, crafters & designers that recognize the marriage between historical technique, punk culture, and the D.I.Y. ethos. The movie includes footage from her travels to 15 different cities and interviews with 80 crafty individuals. And since, of course, she couldn’t fit all of the crafty goodness into one film, there’s a companion book as well.

You can watch a trailer for the film on the official Handmade Nation movie site.

For the Vancouver showing, Faythe Levine will actually be on hand to participate in a Q&A and book signing session after the screening. How rad is that? Tickets are $20 & available from the lovely folks over at Got Craft.

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Location: Rio Theatre, 1660 East Broadway @ Commercial Drive
Screening at 8:00pm, Craft Showcase at 7:00pm
