Squeeee! All of our work was hung yesterday for my art group’s show at Raw Canvas here in Vancouver. I’m so thrilled to see the way it has all come together! Our group, the 10 + 1 Art Collective, has been meeting every two weeks since February to encourage each other, work through marketing materials, help with goal setting, share resources…so many things! It’s been such a great experience to get out of the studio and meet with other artists on a regular basis like this and I’ve been totally impressed with the level of commitment everyone has shown. Usually with this sort of thing a few people will drop out, most will miss at least a few sessions plus there’s always that 1 or 2 people who are consistently late. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of my Emily Carr classes finish with the same number of students who started it! Our group, on the other hand, has been so professional, punctual, reliable – you almost wouldn’t believe we’re artists! lol
After many many late nights over the last few weeks, I’m really happy with the way my paintings for the show turned out. From what I’ve seen, I think they look really interesting as part of the group too. All of our styles are so different, it really makes each individual’s work pop. Unfortunately I didn’t get to be there for the actual hanging of the work because I started a new painting bootcamp class on Sunday. So while I was painting from 10 – 5, I sent the mister & the boy to hang my work. Needless to say, I was nervous! From all accounts they did a great job. And a tricky one! Hanging really heavy wood blocks on totally uneven brick walls? No easy feat! My boys are awesome.
I was disappointed I didn’t get to be there for the big culmination of months of effort, but the bootcamp class is only 4 sessions, so if I missed the first one, I’d be missing a solid 25% of the course. No good. I will, however, be there (with bells on!) for our official opening next Thursday, June 11th. You should come too! 🙂
